Starter grades only
The AFC South doesn’t have the same star power as some other divisions, but it’s quietly one of the more competitive groups in the NFL heading into the season. Here’s how each roster stacks up after the draft.
1. Houston Texans - 86 Points
Houston takes the top spot with elite defensive and a well rounded offense.
Offense
QB: 6
RB: 6
WR1: 8
WR2: 5
WR3: 6
TE: 7
OL: 6
Defense
DE/EDGE: 10
DT: 6
LB: 6
CB: 8 (Pitre NB)
S: 5
Special Teams
K/P: 7
Why they rank here: An elite EDGE group gives Houston the highest ceiling in the division. Solid weapons on offense help, even if quarterback play still has room to grow.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars - 80 Points
Jacksonville lands in second thanks to balance across the roster. RB room really needs some work.
Offense
QB: 7
RB: 3
WR1: 6
WR2: 6
WR3: 7
TE: 6
OL: 6
Defense
DE/EDGE: 7
DT: 5
LB: 6
CB: 6
S: 7
Special Teams
K/P: 8
Why they rank here: The Jaguars don’t have many glaring weaknesses besides RB. This is a team that can compete with the Texans.
3. Indianapolis Colts - 76 Points
The Colts bring a strong run game but question marks elsewhere.
Offense
QB: 5
RB: 8
WR1: 7
WR2: 6
WR3: 3
TE: 7
OL: 7
Defense
DE/EDGE: 6
DT: 6
LB: 4
CB: 7
S: 5
Special Teams
K/P: 5
Why they rank here: A powerful run game and solid offensive line carry the offense, but question marks at quarterback and linebacker hold them back.
4. Tennessee Titans - 66 Points
Tennessee rounds out the division with a roster in transition. Still a lot of work needs to be done to improve this roster.
Offense
QB: 4
RB: 4
WR1: 6
WR2: 4
WR3: 5
TE: 3
OL: 4
Defense
DE/EDGE: 4
DT: 7
LB: 6
CB: 5
S: 4
Special Teams
K/P: 6
Why they rank here: The Titans have some defensive strength up front, but major concerns across the offense limit their overall ceiling.
Final AFC South Rankings
Houston Texans - 86
Jacksonville Jaguars - 80
Indianapolis Colts - 76
Tennessee Titans - 66
Takeaway
Houston looks like the most complete team in the AFC South, but the gap isn’t massive. Jacksonville is right there, while Indianapolis could surprise if the quarterback play improves.
Do you think there will be any surprises in the South this season?
