AJ Brown Trade Rumours Heating Up Again

The story everyone loves talking about is making its weekly appearance again. One of the worst kept secrets in the NFL. AJ Brown traded to the Patriots post June 1st feels inevitable at this point. Let’s break down what it could mean for both the Patriots and the Eagles.
Patriots Perspective
They land an elite No. 1 receiver. Right now, their WR room looks like this…

So there definitely is a need there, and they will fill it with a 3x All-Pro, Super Bowl champion, and one of the best wideouts we’ve seen since he was drafted in 2019 out of Mississippi by the Titans. I believe they will get the most motivated version of AJ possible due to the fact he’s always dreamed of being a Patriot. Really should be a can’t miss for the franchise. Instead of taking a chance on a prospect, they get a proven commodity in Brown.
He will make a difference. Will it be enough to get the Patriots back to the Super Bowl? My guess would be no. It felt as if the Super Bowl appearance last year fell into their laps, as insane as that sounds. The AFC will be a lot tougher this year than it was last season, in my opinion.
Eagles Perspective
Extremely frustrating the AJ Brown drama has to be in Philadelphia. Four seasons and two Super Bowl appearances (one Lombardi), you would think that should be enough to keep a guy happy. But no, they spent the entire season and more talking about AJ Brown. Was he happy there? Not happy? Only AJ himself can tell you. But it was clear this has become a distraction for the franchise, and there’s no option but to move on.
Again, this trade isn’t official, but according to reports it seems like a done deal come June 1st. There is no chance the Eagles are a better team for next season after this move. In the long run, sure, it can turn out good. But losing Brown is a big blow to a passing game that had major struggles last season. A lot of people might have the Eagles drafting a WR early in this draft now, but I don’t see it that way. The addition of Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, and Elijah Moore lessens the blow of losing Brown a bit. Edge rusher is a massive hole for the Eagles which must be addressed, as well as the offensive line. I see that being a priority come draft time.
AJ Browns don’t just fall off trees, so this is a blow to the roster for sure but it’s a huge boost to team morale and chemistry. I expect the Philadelphia Eagles to lean into the run game even more this year, with a good dose of play-action passing to move the ball.
Bonus Take
Another feather in Howie’s cap.
Four years ago, the Eagles traded for AJ Brown for a 1st round pick as well as a 3rd round pick. If the Eagles are able to get a 1st round pick back four years later, I would mark it as a huge success.
4 seasons
2 Super Bowl appearances
1 Lombardi Trophy
All of that, and you get back what you paid?
Incredible…
This would be like buying a car for $50,000, using it for four years, and then selling it to someone else for $50,000.
Howie continues to prove why he’s the best GM in the National Football League.
Again, this is all a big if right now. But where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and we are all running out of oxygen from all the smoke this story has been creating over the last few months…
